How important is NVIDIA to future transport?
In 2020 the world, at least the tech world was exposed to the importance of NVIDIA. An upsurge of sales of graphics cards that would spur crypto mining in a global pandemic allowed us to recognise that NVIDIA was shaping the future for processing heavy calculations in the crypto space, but what wasn’t as obvious was NVIDIAs epidemic over the auto industry.
Auto manufacturers have been looking for processing power that can translate lidar technology into real-time functionality to ready themselves for a life of Level 5 autonomous driving. The computational capabilities to shoulder this feat has placed NVIDIA as the go-to partner. NVIDIAs relationship with Autonomous driving systems is nothing new. I remember in 2018 ordering the system development kit, by that time it was being tinkered with, and we were all understanding its capabilities and limits. Three years on, it seems NVIDIA has solidified its placement as an auto manufacturers choice. Nearly every car manufacturer today is working with NVIDIA for future electric cars. Essentially NVIDIA has become what ARM was to Apple.
The future of the auto industry is hinged on two main components, mining and processing technology. What’s interesting, is that they are symbiotic, and will be even more so as scale proceeds in the next five years.
