Autonomous Vehicles: Open source is the key to safety
The race towards full autonomous road competance is being battled out in commericial and statewide arenas. Start-ups flurrying towards grappling IP to prove competent, and arm themselves with strategic gateways to remain relevant, whilst government officials demonstrate sceptisim of foreign solutions which will jeopordise potential state information. However, what really is at threat is data that saves lives. In our era of machine learning and connectivity, our automated systems are only as good as data sets collected from global data insights.
After the unfortunate accident that took place with an autonomous vehicle from a ride hailing app, discussions regarding applicability and liability of autonomous vehicles and burden of responsibility to be shouldered were discussed. Irrespective of the fact mile-on-mile computers have performed safer than human drivers, a cause for concern is still necassery, as any accident is one too many. nevertheless, the lesser of two evils still stands at automation. Another fledgling vehcile manufacturer encountered issues regarding life threatening errors in their autonomous vehicle system, which is ubiquitous, considering the fact solution providers build walled gardens. However, in the event of errors the pendulum of liability usually often stops at tier 1 . This isnt an isolated issue, rather this is the paradigm of…
