Autonomous Vehicles: Looking beyond the scopes of On-demand

There are no shortages of speculations enveloping nearly every corner of tech street, some more radical than others, and some often oblivious to the maxims of the universe. However, I’m about to challenge a notion that isn’t a stretch from the imaginable future, yet is sometimes hyperboled and often misconstrued by pundits and even heads of industry. Our world is now generously filled with apps that act as conduits towards ‘things’ and people like you and me that want things, but we don’t want to own them, and this has presented questions such as; is ownership even necessary for our world of ‘on demand’? On demand content is an irevokable gold standard example of the redundancy of needing to physically own content — gone are the times of VHS, DVD and CD shelves that would line the vacant walls of every home. However, many have argued with the surge of ride hailing apps, the future of transport is on demand and the future ideal will be one of use but don’t own, which I have to say I disagree with, and I will eventually reveal why.

Making sense of the rationale

There is a logic to the rationale, I worked in the Middle East, and for a period of time I was darting everywhere using Uber and Careem. I could have bought a car, or rented, but I liked the idea of summoning someone who would be able to pick…
